The sign outside the church says, "A Friendly, Multi-Cultural Church." What does that mean? Well, you know what friendly means. And we all know "friendly" when we see it, or when we feel it. I hope that you see and feel it here. I certainly do. But what about Multi-Cultural? What does that mean? It certainly sounds important, and also sounds like a good thing to be, like, for instance, multi-tasking, being multi-talented, or a multi-vitamin. For us at the First Presbyterian Church in Iselin, being multi-cultural goes along with being friendly. A multi-vitamin for your soul and spirit, it means that whoever you are, wherever you come from, whatever your language or culture of origin, or whatever your faith tradition, if you find yourself feeling friendly to the purposes of Jesus Christ as you see them being preached and played out here, and if you find yourself kindly disposed to those struggling souls, both saints and sinners, who are seeking to study and to enact those purposes, then we want to be friends with you, and we sincerely hope that you will find the worship and the work we do friendly to your own purposes, and to your soul. You don't have to be a Presbyterian to come to church. You don't even have to be a Christian to join yourself to the purposes of this church. We have people who came to us at first as non-Christians and eventually found faith and asked to be baptized. We also have people that worship, pray and work with us regularly, who have done so for years, who have never taken that step. They just feel comfortable here, and we're just glad they do. We are glad that they have found a place with us in this vast multiverse of messages about God, and that they have found the message of Jesus Christ to be compellingly and convincingly taught here, not only in word and in song, but also in the lives of the people who serve him here. We are happy to accept each and every one on her or his own terms, and we are persuaded that no one who comes leaves us unchanged. What is the nature of that change? Only God . . . in Christ . . . knows. If you haven't done so yet, you really should try us out. We'll be here every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Find time in your busy schedule for something new, something real, something good, something great. Rev. James F. ThomasPastor
